Mando Alvarado is a Mexican-American playwright, screenwriter and actor originally from Pharr, Texas. His first feature film was Cruzando, which he co-wrote and co-directed with Michael Ray Escamilla.
Early Life (Childhood)He grew up with two younger brothers and describes himself as a bully towards them in their younger years. He first got involved with theater in middle school, when his Drama teacher told him he would need to take a role in a production to pass the class.
Interesting FactsHis plays Sangre, and A King of Infinite Space premiered in Central Park's SummerStage and The Here Art Center. He also wrote the book for the Yellow Brick Road, a bilingual musical adaptation of the Wizard of Oz for Theaterworks USA which received is critically acclaimed Off-Broadway premiere at the Lortel Theater in July 2011.
Personal LifeAlvarado has a child and currently lives in Los Angeles. Even though writing has taken a backseat to parenting, he tries to write at least an hour a day.
NETWORTH And ACHIEVEMENTHis 2009 film Cruzando was awarded at the Mexican International Film Festival, San Antonio Film Festival and Seattle True Independent Film Festival. He was a finalist for the Ellen Steward Artist Award at La MaMa.
