She attended UCLA School of Law with no intention of acting and with the help of talent scout, she signed action contract in Samuel Goldwyn.

She was regarded as the queen of serial films. Gifford was in a road accident in which she survived but left her with many physical and emotional injuries. She Did many volunteer works.

She was married to James Dunn, and they even appeared in movie opposite to each other. However they got divorced because of Dunn's alcoholism.
