Alan Dale is a New Zealand actor who has appeared in television shows such as Entourage, 24, and Lost. He is most noted for playing Jim Robinson in the long-running Australian soap Neighbours.

in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand in a poor family. He developed his affection towards theatre as a child. At age of 12 he was already in a amateur theatre group.

He was a professional rugby player. He landed a job as a disc jockey that led him to being discovered as an actor. Dale is one of the few actors to have appeared in both the Star Trek and the Doctor Who franchises.

In 1968, Dale married his girlfriend, Claire. The couple had two children, Simon and Matthew. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979. He married Tracey Pearson in 1990. Dale also has two children from this marriage, Daniel and Nick. He and his family now live in Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles, California.
