He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America. He studied with Mark and Jay Duplass during his high school. After his college days he studied puppetry at Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.

His birth name is Stavros George Zissis. In 2002 he made his on-screen debut in the short film titled Climbing Out. During college for two summers he taught English in Seoul, South Korea. In his high school days he played in the production Godspell.
