Meek was born in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America. His father was shot dead when he was just five years old. He often participated in rap battles during his teenage days.

In collaboration with his three friend, Meek Mill formed a rap group and called themselves The Bloodhoundz. They released up to four mix tapes. He was voted 7th in hottest MC" in their annual "Hottest MCs in the Game" list by MTV.
